This time a military convoy is transporting four of the super secret, super weapon warheads with nanobots when the evil group who will become Cobra attacks. The convoy begins by coming down off of the Portal Road on the switchbacks, which the company had specially plowed by Dan Stone of Bishop for the shots. They filmed in February of 2008 and the snow was thick on the road. They then are seen coming down the road into the Alabamas and again traveling on the Tuttle Creek Road when they are attacked. Originally the attack was also to be staged there but there were too many environmental concerns to actually make that possible. “We tried to make it work with the military vehicle rolling into the creek, but there just was not enough room to actually pull it off, even if they placed the vehicle using a crane upside down at the bottom of the small cliff,” Film Commissioner Chris Langley reported. “The BLM personnel explored every possibility but it just was just too difficult.”
The scenes come just a few minutes into the film, just as they do in Transformers 2. “I think they are really spectacular and show off our terrain once again to great advantage. The footage shows why they come back again and again, even when they also shot around the world in places like Prague and Paris.” The location was one of the few in the film that were not manipulated by computer to any radical degree. “We just have the look.”
There was a large second unit crew on location located at the bottom of Tuttle Creek for a couple of days and left about a half a million dollars behind. The Location Manager was Steven Mapel and Dave Kirk was the BLM Monitor.
