| FOUR NEW TOURS FOR THIS YEAR INCLUDE THREE NEVER BEFORE AVAILABLE AND A RETURN OF AN OLD FAVORITE |
Four tours not described in the brochure in detail are being offered this year to the visiting fans at the Lone Pine Film Festival. Three of them are brand new, and the fourth was not available last year. |
 |
Tom Mix was one of the greatest western film stars and he and his horse Tony were superstars during the 1920’s. He made four films in Lone Pine, two silent and two sound, and we are lucky to have them all in good copies. The Tom Mix Tour will be a Caravan tour (you will need to ride in a car.) THE REASON FOR THIS IS SIMPLE. SOME OF THE LOCATIONS DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH SPACE FOR A BUS TO TURN OR PARK. Of special interest will be the several locations from Riders of the Purple Sage (1924). You will visit where they built the adobe structures “high up in the mountains” where Tom would eventually go to live, the tent settlement near the Portal Road and the location of the waterfall on the Tuttle Creek Road. Museum Executive Director Chris Langley will be your guide. |
The World Tour visits places where Lone Pine was glad to play different parts of the world and the universe. Several locations from Gunga Din will be explored. You will visit South America where John Wayne worked in Tycoon to drill a railroad tunnel through the Andes. You will “walk” to Persia where the campsite from The Adventures of Hajji Baba was located, where the Bengal Lancers rode. The Tour will go north on Movie Road to visit several sites from Iron Man and some areas used in a military training film for combat soldiers in Afghanistan made this year. Museum Executive Director Chris Langley will be your guide. None of the history of Lone Pine in the films would be possible without the tireless work of Festival Founder Dave Holland. The Dave Holland Tribute Tour will focus of the life and work of Dave, with personal stories from Lone Piners Dorothy Bonnefin and Kerry Powell about working with him, and visits to several of the locations from the famous bus tours he created many years ago. Mike Royer will be your guide. |
|
| Finally, the Audie Murphy Tour returns with visits to several sites from Hell Bent For Leather, Posse From Hell and Showdown. This tour takes you the furthest north on Movie Road. It also includes a special guide, professor Geoff Mayer, film authority from LaTrobe University in Australia who will be on the Tour to bring his special expertise to understanding our most decorated hero from World War 2. Audie fan and specialist Barbara Bahl will be your guide. TOM MIX MOVIE LOCATION TOUR (NEW THIS YEAR) Tom Mix and his horse Tony made four movies in Lone Pine, two silent classics and two sound films. Visit locations for Just Tony (1922), Riders of the Purple Sage (1924), Flaming Guns (1932) and Terror Trail (1932) while hearing the story of Tom’s life and stunning career. 2.5 hours

WORLD MOVIE LOCATION TOUR (NEW THIS YEAR) Take a cinematic trip around the world without ever leaving the Alabama Hills. On this tour you will visit South America (Tycoon), India (Gunga Din, Lives of the Bengal Lancers), and even the backside of the Moon. Lone Pine has been called to play many different lands in films to save movie companies time, money and danger. 2.5 Hours
DAVE HOLLAND TRIBUTE TOUR (NEW THIS YEAR) Our co founder Dave Holland is no longer with us but definitely not forgotten. On this tour you will visit some of his favorite locations and hear about his life, career and adventures founding the Festival and finding so many of our most famous locations. See new and old favorite locations thanks to Dave. Hear friends and family who knew him best recount many favorite stories. 2 hours AUDIE MURPHY MOVIE LOCATION TOUR (RETURNING THIS YEAR) Returning after a year absence, the Audie Murphy tour takes you to several locations for the most decorated soldier’s three Lone Pine films. Led by special guest Professor Geoff Mayer of Latrobe University in Australia, the group will learn details of Murphy’s body of film work as well as insight into his heroic life. 2.5 hours.
