The Outdoor Adventure Film Series in honor of mountaineer Norman Clyde begins Wednesday, July 8 at 7 PM in the Lone Pine Film History Museum. It is free.

The eight-week film series is the result of a partnership between the Film Museum, Eastern California Museum and Elevations, an outdoor adventure store located in downtown Lone Pine. It coincides with the Norman Clyde exhibit now featured at the Eastern California Museum in Independence. Norman Clyde was a famous Eastern Sierra mountaineer, climber and adventurer long known in the area.

The films being offered have several related themes and have achieved recognition and often multiple awards for their cinematography and documentary accomplishments.

The first film is entitled A Day In The Life. It is described in the following terms: “ The one and only climbing video about the women climbers. Paul Dusatko's directing efforts in A Day In The Life uncover the parallels between sending a climb and overcoming the obstacles of real life. A Day In The Life beautifully exlores the lives of 5 women climbers. Each woman represents a different age, personality, and lifestyle. The vibrant mixture of femininity and raw determination combine in harmony to create a film that delivers hope, encouragement, and inspiration.”

This film is followed the next Wednesday by King Lines: the ground-breaking Emmy Award winning new climbing movie from Sender Films and Big Up Productions. This high definition climbing film follows Chris Sharma over the course of a year and a half and captures him doing breathtaking and cutting edge ascents all across the world (Venezuela, Greece, Spain, France and more). Chris Sharma is one of the strongest and most recognized rock climbers in the world.

Next in line is a screening of The Sharp End. The movie features climbers Tommy Caldwell, Steph Davis, Matt Segal, Lisa Rands, Ammon McNeely, Alex Honnold, Chris McNamara, Dean Potter, Renan Ozturk and others climbing in the French Alps, the Eiger, the Utah Desert, the Diamond on Long’s Peak, the Indian Kashmir, Yosemite Granite and sandstone spires in the Czech Republic among other locales. Basically lots of run outs, high balls and other crazy stuff you probably shouldn’t ever try.

In upcoming weeks the following films will screen on Wednesdays at 7 PM: 3 Weeks 3 Peaks (July 29); Red Gold (August 5); A River Reborn (August 12); Dosage V5 (August 19); and 5 Million Footsteps (August 26).

Chris Langley, Executive Director of the Lone Pine Film History Museum, explained, “We are excited by the excellent exhibit on such an interesting local personality as Norman Clyde, and that Eastern California Museum and“Elevations” of Lone Pine were willing to partner with us to make it possible. It is something new for our Museum and if the reception is good, we hope to create a Festival, now tentatively called the Whitney Mountain Fest the first week in March 2010 during which we will feature films made in our mountains exploring outdoor adventuring. The Festival would also include guest speakers and on Sunday hands-on experiences in the Alabama Hills
