Screenings, Panels, Presentations begin Friday morning 7:30 AM

WHERE: Lone Pine, California

WHAT: A Weekend of Western Film Fare including –

What Makes a Great Western Movie?

Some might argue it’s about the characters. Others might maintain it’s the story. Still others might insist it’s the performances. However, most would include the visual sweep and impact of big skies, open plains and towering mountains.

A Great Director

What ties all these elements together is a strong creative director. A director has the responsibility of controlling the film’s artistic and dramatic aspects. A director guides the cast and technical crew by creating an overall vision.

America boasts a long list of Western directors of legendary status. The 2016 Lone Pine Film Festival will pay tribute to great Western directors providing screenings of a dozen films that celebrate their talent. Some of these screenings will be followed with interviews and discussions with film industry personalities who will discuss the film’s heritage.

Additional panels and presentations, along with over 20 movie site tours led by knowledgeable tour guides, will complement the weekend’s film schedule. The annual Lone Pine Rodeo will feature team roping on Saturday and. Sunday will begin with a morning cowboy church at the Anchor Ranch, followed in the afternoon by our famous Main Street Parade.

A preliminary list of speakers/presenters is below:

* Jim Clark, the go-to guy for Hollywood trains, will be here sharing his expertise and knowledge.
* Bob Boze Bell, Executive Editor of True West magazine, and Larry Floyd, a noted gun collector will present an hour program on “Little Big Horn Fact and Film.” Discussing the actual facts concerning Custer and the battle including the weapons and equipment of the type used by the troops in the fight.

* David Matuszak, Western historian and long-time Festival presenter, will offer his top ten fistfights in Westerns films.

* Pepe Serna, an actor with over one hundred screen credits including Shootout with Gregory Peck and Silverado with Kevin Costner, will share some of his experiences as a Western actor.
* David Rothel will be on hand to talk about the Museum’s newest book Singing Cowboys.
* Francis Nevins, author of Hopalong Cassidy: On the Page, On the Screen, will be in attendance to discuss his newest book They Called the Shots
* Plan to visit the center of activity, The Museum of Western Film History. It is the Museum’s mission to collect, preserve, protect, archive and exhibit a variety of original materials relating to the history and heritage of the American Western film and to ensure the preservation and access of these materials for the education and enrichment of the public.
